At Hitchr, we're building tools that make hitchhiking safer, easier, and more insightful. Our latest feature is one we’re especially excited about: Trip Tracking.
We’ll use your devices GPS to record your entire hitchhiking adventure - from the moment you start waiting to the moment you arrive at your destination. Think Strava, but for hitchhiking. We’ve worked with UX Designer Nadine MacDonald to bring the concept to life in a way that feels natural, intuitive, and built for the road.
Why are we building this?
Every hitchhiker knows that no two journeys are the same. But by capturing the full picture of each trip, we can start to piece together much richer community insights about the hitchhiking experience so that every hitchhiking trip makes it slightly easier for the next person who comes along.
Seamless data capture means:
You no longer have to remember the details of your journey to log them later.
We can automatically populate your Hitch Journal, so you can relive your travels and share them with others.
You’ll get personalised statistics showing where you’ve been and how long you waited.
We’ll ask you quick questions to improve the quality of our data - for example, "Was there good visibility where you got picked up?"
What’s the bigger picture?
The data you choose to share helps everyone in the Hitchr community. Over time, it will allow us to:
Offer accurate journey time estimates, based on real hitchhiker experiences.
Identify and improve knowledge about popular and reliable hitchhiking spots.
Provide context-specific tips during your trip - such as what to expect when hitchhiking in Germany vs. Spain. We’ll even show you some language tips to help you get by
And what about safety?
We’re building in features that give you more peace of mind on the road:
Share your location in real-time with a trusted friend.
Snap a quick photo of the licence plate before you hop in.
These tools are designed to blend into your journey without getting in the way.
Coming soon to testers
Trip Tracking is about to be released to our test group. If you’re hitchhiking right now, we’d love for you to be one of the first to try it. Just drop us a message — we’ll get you set up.
Together, we’re building the most comprehensive, real-time view of hitchhiking anywhere in the world. And this is just the beginning.
